In Ayurveda, a “Sattvic” diet — a diet rich in whole, natural, and nutrient-rich foods — is believed to be essential for brain health. Ancient Indians favored foods like nuts, milk, fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and ghee for mental clarity. In particular, Ghee (clarified butter) is known in Ayurveda to nourish the brain and nervous system and is often used in cooking or taken with herbs.
Sattvic foods aim to keep the mind calm, alert and balanced, enhancing cognitive function over time. Today, many of these foods are recognized as “brain foods” because they are rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that are important for brain health.
